LULLABY, STRANGER
An immersive choral concert
Created in collaboration with Sujay Saple (2018), Produced by Shapeshift Productions (Mumbai)
Lullaby, Stranger is a choral performance, meant to be heard lying down. It combines the experience of a choral music concert and an immersive theatre performance. Moving between shared and private spaces, this choreographed concert speaks of our most intimate moments. Songs of love and fulfillment, of absence and loss, of dreams and longing, of prayer and death, weave a journey that stirs tension as well as tenderness.
Lullaby, Stranger emerged from a desire to create an encounter between spectator and performer that could be truthful, in which both could be at their most vulnerable, but also able to trust and empower each other. The performance is a musical offering where our intimacy, vulnerability and human trust could become our greatest strengths.
The performance-work premiered in Mumbai with sold-out performances in August 2018, February 2019, and February 2020. It was subsequently invited to run at the Adishakti International Theatre Arts Festival, Pondicherry in 2020.
Salome Rebello was invited to give a lecture-presentation on Lullaby, Stranger at the prestigious World Choral Expo 2022 in Lisbon, and also at the World Choral Symposium 2023 in Istanbul.
